Privacy & Analytics

Last updated: 29 October 2026

GennyPop is a public website that helps visitors explore generations. You do not need to create an account to use it. We use website analytics to understand visits and improve the experience. This page explains what those tools do.

1. Information collected through analytics

When you visit GennyPop, analytics services may record information such as pages visited, approximate location (for example, country or city), referrer website, device type, operating system, browser, and time of visit. Google Analytics may also measure interactions with website features. This helps us understand which parts of GennyPop visitors use.

The birth-year calculator works in your browser. We do not intentionally send the birth year you type as a custom analytics event or use it to create a personal profile. No account or login is required.

2. Google Analytics 4

We use Google Analytics 4 to measure website usage, including visits, pages, approximate location and device/browser information. Google Analytics ordinarily uses first-party cookies, including _ga, to distinguish visitors and sessions. Google states that GA4 uses IP addresses during collection but does not log or store those IP addresses in Analytics.

For more information, read Google's Analytics data safeguards and Google's Privacy Policy.

3. Vercel Web Analytics and hosting

GennyPop also includes Vercel Web Analytics. When enabled in our Vercel project, this service measures page views and aggregated traffic information, such as referrers, approximate geography, browser and device type. Vercel says its Web Analytics product does not rely on third-party cookies and does not associate analytics reports with an individual visitor or IP address.

Separately from the Web Analytics reports, Vercel provides the website hosting and may process technical request information such as IP addresses for delivery, security and operations.

See Vercel Web Analytics privacy details and Vercel's Privacy Notice.

4. Why we use this information

  • To understand how many people visit and which pages or features are useful.
  • To improve the website across mobile and desktop devices.
  • To monitor overall website performance and troubleshoot issues.

We do not intentionally sell your analytics information. We do not require you to supply your name or email address simply to explore the timeline.

5. Cookies, choices and retention

Google Analytics may set analytics cookies on your device. You can block or clear cookies in your browser, use browser tracking protections, or install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on where supported. Blocking these tools should not prevent you from exploring the generation timeline, although some analytics measurements may no longer work.

Analytics records are retained according to the relevant provider's services and the data-retention settings configured for the website. Providers may process information in countries outside Australia. We will review this notice if our analytics setup changes.

6. Changes to this notice

We may update this notice when GennyPop changes or when analytics providers or collection practices change. The date at the top shows when this page was last revised.
